About Us
Child abuse has been the leading cause of all trauma deaths at The Children’s Hospital every year since 2003. The hospital typically admits serveral children each month with signs of Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS). SBS is a serious head injury that occurs when an infant or toddler is severely or violently shaken. This shaking often leads to brain damage, hearing loss, blindness, speech or learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities, or even death. The good news though, is that abuse is preventable. That’s where we come in. The Children's Hospital, The Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect and Kohl's Department Stores have partnered together to bring you The Kohl's Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Campaign in Colorado.
We believe that in order to dramatically impact this issue and reduce the problem, we must better educate the citizens and leaders of our community. Child abuse can be prevented and this program is an important step in taking action.
